Allentown takes its name from Joseph Allen, who bought the land in 1827. More than half of its homes were built before 1940, and about eight in ten before 1960.
The city’s own architectural survey found most Allentown houses are frame, built between 1880 and 1910 in Italianate, Queen Anne, Colonial Revival and Craftsman styles. Many have a flat or low slope roof on all or part of the house, and shingles do not belong on those sections.

On this Allentown job the old roof came off and the deck had soft spots that were cut out and replaced. Then half inch fiber board went down to give the new roof a solid, flat base.
The rubber membrane was set in low VOC adhesive, every seam was sealed and the penetrations and walls were flashed so water has nowhere to get in.

Allentown is part of the City of Pittsburgh, so permits go through the city's Department of Permits, Licenses, and Inspections. PLI lists roofing as work under its residential minor alterations building permit, and roofing is not on its list of work that needs no permit. We take care of the permit for your job.
For an owner occupied home, Pittsburgh asks for the contractor's Pennsylvania Home Improvement Contractor registration when the permit is pulled. We are registered and carry liability insurance, and we can send proof before the job starts.
Yes, with a city permit. A dumpster in the street needs a construction staging permit from the city's Department of Mobility and Infrastructure, which asks for time to review it. We plan the dumpster and the permit well before the tear off.
Yes. On one Allentown home we replaced the deck where needed, installed half inch fiber board and put down a rubber membrane with sealed seams and flashing around every penetration.
