Alan Construction has been replacing and repairing roofs in Upper St. Clair and across the South Hills since 2003. Most of our roof replacements are finished in a single day, with the yard cleaned and the magnet run before we leave.
We have not posted a finished Upper St. Clair job yet, so the photos on this page are from roofs our own crew replaced in nearby South Hills towns. No stock photography.

Upper St. Clair’s fastest growth came in the 1950s and 1960s, and the median home here was built in 1972. Almost half of the homes went up between 1960 and 1979, and nearly all of them are single family houses.
The township describes its housing as aging but in good condition, and that matches what we see. These are well kept homes on their second or third roof, where the job is done right once rather than patched.

Once the old roof is off we can see the whole deck. Any board or sheet that has gone soft gets cut out and replaced before anything new goes down, because a new roof is only as solid as what it is nailed to.
Then the roof gets ice and water protection at the eaves and valleys, synthetic underlayment across the rest, new drip edge and fresh flashing, so water has a clean path off the roof.

Roofing is most of what we do here, and we handle the rest of the exterior while the crew is already on site.
Full tear off and replacement, most finished in a single day.
Leaks, missing shingles, flashing and storm damage.
Vinyl siding and trim for Upper St. Clair homes.
Seamless gutters and downspouts sized for our rainfall.
Rebuilding the trim and venting at the roof edge.
Replacement windows that fit original openings.
Alan Construction did a great job on our roof! They communicated well, got the job done in one day, and quoted me a fair price. I had part of my roof done a few years ago and they matched the shingle color exactly. They also sealed a vent for me on the part of the roof they weren't responsible for at no cost. My parents are getting their roof done next year and will definitely be using Alan Construction! I highly recommend.
What a positive experience! Alan was thorough in his assessment of my roof, while providing a transparent explanation along with a fair estimate for replacement. He sent a hard working team, lead by Fernando, to execute one hell of a single-day job with minimal interruption. Everyone was professional and courteous every step of the way. I cannot recommend more highly!
The township lists roof replacement among work that does not need a permit, unless changes are made to the structure. Gutters, soffit, downspouts, fascia and siding replacement are on the same list. If a job turns into structural work, we take care of the permit first.
Most homes are a one day job. A large roof with several hips and valleys, or a lot of bad decking, can run into a second day. We tell you which one you are looking at before we start.
Yes. The deck is checked once the old roof is off, and any section that will not hold a nail gets replaced before the underlayment goes down.
Yes. We also handle siding, seamless gutters, soffit and fascia, and replacement windows. If the roof edge is being rebuilt it often makes sense to deal with the gutters and the fascia in the same visit.
It is hard on a roof. Pittsburgh averages a little over 44 inches of snow a year and roughly 114 nights at or below freezing, but only about 32 days that stay below freezing all day. That means something like 80 days a year where water melts and refreezes. Freeze and thaw cycling is what works shingles loose, opens up flashing and finds any weak spot at a valley or a chimney.
