Alan Construction has been replacing and repairing roofs in South Park and across the South Hills since 2003. Most of our roof replacements are finished in a single day, with the yard cleaned and the magnet run before we leave.

South Park Township started out in 1845 as Snowden Township and took its current name in 1966. The median home here was built in 1975, and more than four in ten went up between 1960 and 1979.
Many of those homes are now on their second roof, and some still have the first one. Wooded lots near the park also mean leaves in the gutters and valleys, which is where water backs up and starts rotting the roof edge.

Once the old roof is off we can see the whole deck. Any board or sheet that has gone soft gets cut out and replaced before anything new goes down, because a new roof is only as solid as what it is nailed to.
Then the roof gets ice and water protection at the eaves and valleys, synthetic underlayment across the rest, new drip edge and fresh flashing, so water has a clean path off the roof.

South Park's building department decides whether a roof job needs a permit, and we confirm with them before we start. The township does require its own permit before a dumpster is placed, and we take care of that for the tear off.
Yes. The township bans nail guns and other construction equipment from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. Monday through Saturday, all day Sunday and on federal holidays. We schedule the work inside those hours.
Most homes are a one day job. A roof with a lot of bad decking or several sections can run into a second day. We tell you which one you are looking at before we start.

It is hard on a roof. Pittsburgh averages a little over 44 inches of snow a year and roughly 114 nights at or below freezing, but only about 32 days that stay below freezing all day. That means something like 80 days a year where water melts and refreezes. Freeze and thaw cycling is what works shingles loose, opens up flashing and finds any weak spot at a valley or a chimney.
